ADHD is not just bad behaviour

I swear if I read one more meme about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) being a made up condition, I will scream. If I see one more post about kids with ADHD just needing a ‘kick up the arse’, I will explode. 

ADHD is not just a child being naughty.  It is a documented disability.  It is not a new condition. In fact it was first added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1980.  At the risk of alarming anyone, that is nearly 40 years ago. read more

I’ve been using Facebook for around 9 years.  Before that I sporadically used a myriad of social media channels throughout my teen years.  Unlike Facebook though, most of those channels are now gone and I’m not faced with cringe worthy reminders of the things I wrote when my emotional intelligence wasn’t at the level it is now.  Thank you Facebook memories!Emotional intelligence doesn’t have anything to do with a person’s IQ or the grades they got in school.  A person can be a rocket scientist and still have zero emotional intelligence.  Emotional intelligence refers to someone’s ability to evaluate, express, identify and control their emotions. read more

Mr 6 has had a rocky relationship with sleep since he was 2 years old.  Before that he was the perfect sleeper.  I was that smug Mum who thought that because I was following the rules, my baby was sleeping.  In my quest, I wanted to know why, not just sit back and accept that he just had trouble with sleep. read more

Important Life Lessons

During one of my many inpatient stays in 2007 one of the nurses sat me down to share with me his Life Lessons.  I am so glad that he wrote them down as there was no way that I was in the right frame of mind to take it on board.  Times like this I’m also glad I am a bit of a hoarder so I still have the book it is written in. read more
