I’m linking up this week with Kristy from My Home Truths for I must confess. Each week you can confess your deep dark secrets or follow along with the prompt for something a little less skeleton in the closet. This week the prompt is Baby Names.
I had no ‘must have’ names before I was pregnant. I hadn’t grown up knowing that one day I would use a name on my future child. I remember flicking through baby name books when my mum was pregnant with my brother and laughing at the ridiculous names included. We all have at one stage in our life looked up the meaning of our names. FYI my name (Tegan) means beautiful doe..suits me perfectly 😉
I bought a baby name book when I found out I was pregnant and randomly flicked through it, searching for a name for my belly bean. I made a short list. I had already decided that I wanted to use either DP middle name or my father’s middle name as a middle name for DS so the first name that I picked had to work with either of them.
I was also super vigilant about teasing. I didn’t want to give him a name that was going to render him such an outsider that his name could be used to taunt him. I also checked the initials to make sure they couldn’t be made into something inappropriate like ASS. Yeh I over thought it just a little bit.
Although I am sure in 10 or so years the children who are the proud owners of these names wish that their parents had the same forethought. People…don’t be arseholes, you might think calling your kid burger is cute now but that kid has got to live with it. Just sign them up for therapy now and be done with it.
Did you have a name picked out before your baby was born? Are you a fan of traditional or ‘out there’ names?
