I must confess…resolutions aren’t really my thing. I hate the pressure of them and the shame in not quite getting there by the end of the year. I also believe that if you really want to make a change then it’s up to you when to do it..not a ticking over a calendar year.
However, in saying all of that, I do have a few aspirations for the year, the things that I would like to achieve, that fit in with my mantra of ‘life is a series of baby steps’. I don’t have to completely shake up my world, I just need to chip away at it, making the changes it needs without the overwhelming feeling of nothing staying the same.
I must confess that I do not cope well with change. I find comfort in the routine of life. I like to know what is coming and find myself spiraling if I have too many unexpected changes thrown my way. This is why my mantra works so well for me. It doesn’t feel like a complete overhaul.
My main aspiration for this year is to become more organised with my house. My house has kind of gotten away from me over the last twelve months and I hate it. I used to follow the Fly Lady principals but found it too much. I do want to do something similar, just not quite so involved. One of the things that I liked about it was that a ‘big’ clean only took 30 minutes at the most instead of the hours I spend now, often giving up because I couldn’t be bothered.
Decluttering is on the menu as well. I have built in cupboards that span one wall of my bedroom and one whole side of it is at the stage where I have to stand back, throw something in and shut the door before it all falls out. I don’t even know what is in there! One of my favourite shirts got eaten by moths too so I want to get to the bottom of that.
I also want to be more organised with my blog (she says as she is typing this the night before it’s due) so that I have a bit of leeway when the mojo wanes. I have already started on this one and have a few drafts up my sleeve, something that very rarely happens. The mojo has turned up and I am milking it for all it’s worth!
Overall the word of the year is Organised, both in real life and on the blog. I’m looking forward to this year. I am going to make it my bitch!
What are your dreams for 2014? Do you make resolutions?
