Devil Spawn is a sleep dodger of epic proportions. He either sleeps or he doesn’t, there is no in between, no rhyme or reason. A long, busy day does not always mean an early bed time, just as a boring day sitting at home does not mean there will be sleep dodging in the future. I have stopped questioning it and just go with the flow. If you can call muttering swear words under my breath going with the flow. Devil Spawn has a huge list of things he uses to try and get out of going to bed and because caring is sharing, I decided to entertain you with his excuses.
- Daddy is snoring too loudly. I must add that he wanted to sleep in the lounge room, where his snoring father was.
- He needs to go to the toilet for the 100th time.
- I need a drink…resulting in another 100 toilet trips
- My bed makes me sick
- I have a cough and it’s no good for laying in bed
- I will go to bed tomorrow
- I’ll eat dinner now (usually at 11pm, when I’ve already thrown the dinner in the bin)
- My leg has a flat tyre (this is my personal favourite)
- I need the light on…usually followed by saying he can’t sleep because it’s too bright.
Those are just the tip of the iceberg for excuses he comes up with on a nightly basis. I don’t want to bore you with the mundane.
Is your child a sleep dodger? What are the excuses that they have come out with for not sleeping?
Oh yes she is! We are only now getting to a good space with her sleep. Her little baby brother is an amazing sleeper! SUCH A DIFFERENCE!! I wonder why? I really do think it is an innate thing. Here’s hoping you get some tonight! Sleep that is! hehehe
DS used to be an awesome sleeper. Up until about the age of 2 and then he decided sleep is for the weak and has been dodging it ever since.
my leg has a flat tyre LOL!! Maybe you should tell him your battery (brain) is flat and needs charging (sleep). I can’t believe how much he dodges sleep. I would definitely be a walking zombie if I were you. Let’s hope that when he turns four he turns back into a sleeping beauty 😀
Fingers crossed!
Ugh, glad you have a sense of humour about it 🙂 Jake was shocking as a baby but they were both reasonable sleepers after that. Course, now he is a teen he wants to be up all night and sleep all day – which I totes understand, cos I want to do the same. But, if my life has to be regimented and boring, so does his! 🙂
I’m hoping that he isn’t one of those kids that think waiting up in the morning is awesome and does it for life. That really does gel well for me.
I love the flat tyre one, that’s classic. Punky isn’t old enough to come up with reasons to dodge sleep yet but I remember from my days of looking after my younger siblings, this classic gem that my sister E tried to pull. After trying for hours to get her in to bed when she was about 7, she finally declared “It’s too late to go to sleep now, I’ll just have to stay up all night!”. She was so serious and matter of fact about it that all I could do was laugh and left her alone. I got the last laugh when Mum came home and went ballistic at her for still being up!
Hold onto the years that there is no excuses lol.
